Where Indian Politics just cannot reach..

We are living in a country / society where there are lots of issues that are waiting to be "solved". Issues, most of which are discussed out in the open, with their root cause, solutions etc. There are umpteen "experts" out there making a living on "discussions". Despite having an enormous talent pool, we are still fighting poverty, unemployment, casteism and other deadly evils. And one of the prime reason behind all the issues we have is politics.

Twisted Indian politics!

Before I get into what's actually happening in Indian Politics, let me provide you with a brief understanding of how to work around a problem. This is something we all are aware of, the steps are self-explanatory and are provided below:
Now lets analyze Indian politics through the steps provided:

1. Problem Definition: As far as defining the problem is concerned, our politicians do either of the two: evade completely or discuss thoroughly even if they don't agree with what they are saying. Lets take the last couple of years for example: How do you define the Telangana problem, or black money issue, or for that matter, having a Jan Lokpal bill. They either evade the issue completely or have a point of view that's very well aligned with their party philosophy.

2. Identifying the root cause: Whatever the issues we face as Indians, there are only few standard root causes. You name an issue and it's root cause with be either generation gap, Region based philosophy (Eg: Khaps), Religion based philosophy / perception (Eg: Terrorism), disadvantages of coalition politics (Eg: lack of proper policies based on market demand and equality for all) and the best of all: our Diversity!

3. Listing down possible solutions: Now this is where our news channels and our politicians earn their popularity and their daily bread. Every single day we are provided with countless debates and arguments about the current issues along with their possible solutions. It inevitably turns into a government vs opposition battle with no clear winner. Guess what, that is exactly what the news channel wants! If there's a clear winner, there won't be multiple debates on the same topic right?

4. Identifying the best possible solution: This phase is where some activists reach. But that's the closest they are to solving problems.

5. Implementation within proper time frame: You kidding me?

6. Analyzing the results: Not applicable at all!

One thing I have realized in Indian politics: there are young politicians out there trying to make a difference. Things are changing - which is good. But then there are those "seasoned" politicians who know how to play around the issues without solving them. Hey, if they solve the issues, they won't have anything to win the next election. No fund will flow in to their ministry from the central government - which means their pockets will not be full. Media will not have any issues to discuss which means less eyeballs, less revenue from advertising. Everyone loses in this bargain, only the common man wins.

Not fair, right?  Sarcasm totally intended.

PS: Though I have mentioned Indian politics, I am sure the same is applicable to world politics with slight modifications based on democracy and dictatorship.

  4. Wow Binu. A very elaborate and pin point post on how politics is rotting our country.

One can only wait & watch as the existing band of seasoned politicians makes way for those who are more serious about the growth of this country.

Younger politicians will definitely work on lines of what you've proposed to improve this country... That's one emotion we all live with - Hope!

  5. Binu, a very impressive and a sarcasm loaded post. How the basic problem solving techniques has been blown into immature stupid solutions(if we call them that) by our so called elected representives. I really can't even use the word eleceted can I, but it is sheer man power, and by that I mean hardcore Gunda gardi have these people become leaders.
And a total LOL on the line where a comman man is the winner.

  9. Thanks Ashwini. In some cases, people analyze very well. But when the root cause points towards them, they circumvent the analysis..
